Rebecca inSwindon

Rebecca inSwindon

Today I had the pleasure of photographing the Swindon St George’s Day celebrations in the town centre put on by inSwindon BID company. Centre piece of course was the 20 ft St George that after being blessed traveled from the Cenotaph down to Wharf Green accompanied by 100 school children and Ethemia who had written a song especially for this occasion. Once in Wharf Green the children were split up into different groups where they were taught fold dancing around the May pole, made dragons out of clay and took part in sports competitions. It culminated with a performance of Folk Dancing or should I say alternative Folk Dancing by the group FolkDanceRemixd.

It was great fun, the weather held and everybody seemed to have a very enjoyable time.

Peter Pan and Tinkerbell Anton and Katya in Swindon

Yesterday I took part in the photo shoot for The Wyvern Theatre at The Link Centre where Russian Ice Stars Anton Smirnov and Katya Bokiy who are Peter Pan and Tinkerbell met the Swindon Wildcats Ice Hockey Team. It was as usual a fun photo shoot albeit a bit cold and I couldnt believe how quickly they moved when skating. I dont think you get the impression that they are going quite so quickly when you see it on TV. As an athlete myself I was really impressed with the physicality of it all. It definitely looked tough to me.

Peter Pan on Ice will be being performed at The Wyvern Theatre from 7th to 11th May

Prince Andrew The Duke of York visits UTC Swindon

Prince Andrew The Duke of York made a flying visit in the rain to The UTC University Technical College in Swindon. The site which is still under construction was rather wet and muddy and we all had to wear boots, hard hats, hi viz jackets except the Prince himself!!

The Prince seemed genuinely interested in what was going on and seemed to enjoy himself. He met a selected few of the students, parents, staff and construction workers.

Boy Band Rogue 5 meets Swindon

Today’s photo shoot was with the Boy Band Rogue 5 who will be appearing at The Wyvern Theatre on Thursday March 6th. Worth going to see them, they have sooo much energy, were really funny and even co-opted Dan Flay from TotalSwindon into the Boy Band as he was interviewing them.

Another fun day for me and meeting interesting people.

I love my job, well it isnt even a job really as I enjoy it so much.

Holocaust Memorial Day Service in Swindon

Despite this event taking place in public I have removed the images as one person in a couple of them complained about being in them. I did explain that as she was in and the event took place in a public place that I was legally allowed to take and publish them, I did remove them as this is now old news and makes no difference to me. Whilst the images are not important it could be construed that I had made an assumption that they were a ‘couple’ whereas in fact they are both single and not attached to each other.

As an accredited jounalist and member of the NUJ I just wanted to point out that we as jounalist are allowed to take photographs in public places of public events.

At 12:00 on 27th January there was a small but well attended wreath laying ceremony in Swindon Town Centre to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. Despite the inclement weather it was well attended by Swindon dignitaries including the Conservative MP for Swindon South Robert Buckland and Mayor Nick Martin who laid the wreath.

Simon Weston and Mike Penning at Swindon Disability Conference

Last week I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Simon Weston Falklands War Veteran and disability campaigner. Along with Mike Penning Minister of State for Disabled People at the Swindon SEQOL Disability Confident Conference held at the Steam Museum. Both really nice guys to talk to, in fact everybody there was a pleasure to work with and talk to.

I Love Christmas in Swindon

Dont you just love Christmas, well I certainly did on Thursday night at the Swindon Lights Switch on. Back stage with the girls from Swindon Ovation dance group.

Reminds me of the song All I Want For Christmas ……

The Face of Remembrance in Swindon

Nothing to say on this really other than that the Remembrance Parade, Service, Ceremony here in Swindon is still as strong as ever after a large turn out of both those who took part in the parade and the public who came to support. The weather was perfect, a bright sunny November day.

Halloween comes early to Swindon

Halloween came early to Swindon today. Staff and musicians at That’s Entertainment Music and Video Store in Swindon all dressed up in spooky costumes to entertain customers. I was really pleasantly surprised by how much effort into the clothes and makeup they had made, in my opinion they looked really really good. The music fest was arranged and sponsored by Alan Homes of Homes Music. Well done Alan and well done That’s Entertainment.

Swindon Rocks to the Sound and Sights of Capoeira Brazil

Well, this morning Canal Walk in Swindon rocked to the sound of Brazillian music and singing and a demonstration of Capoeira.
What is Capoeira, it is a form of Martial Art which originated in Brazil and is a mixture of fighting, dancing and music.

In lovely sunshine (for a change) they performed all sorts of moves from high kicks, head stands, punches and some spectacular somersaults whilst kicking at the same time. All very impressive stuff from the youngest to the more mature of the students.

They are going to be there again tomorrow I believe, so take a look and cheer them on. It only costs a few minutes of your time and is pretty impressive.
