Boogie Nights Hits Swindon in a big way at the Wyvern Theatre

BoogieNights

BoogieNights

Last night I went to the opening night of the hit West End show Boogie Nights at Swindon Wyvern Theatre. What a night, it was great. It was so much fun. All of the cast were great and for the most seemed to be enjoying themselves. The audience took a little while to let go and get up and dance in the isles but by the end I think everybody apart from a few who were unable to stand, were up and dancing, YMCA went down particularly well not least because Chico had his shirt off and even I have to say he was ‘buff’.
Just one slight criticism if any was that the sound was not quite right. I think some of the mic’s were not set up or working properly but to be honest didnt spoil it that much.

The photo above is one I took at the photoshoot a few weeks ago where I chatted to the cast and again have to say what fun they were.

My advice, go see, if you have any 70’s gear, wear it and dont forget to stand up and dance.

Swindon Britain From Above Event at Wharf Green

Yesterday I spent a fun couple of hours at the Britain From Above event in Wharf Green Swindon. The event was put on by English Heritage to introduce the public to the archive of 1.5M images of Britain taken from the air and yesterday was specifically images of Swindon from the air. The event which was organised by http://kirstyhebersmith.com/ for InSwindon and despite the cold weather was a great success. For me it was nice to see that once some of the older ‘kids’ had decided it was not embarrasing to get involved and make paper aeroplanes that they actually enjoyed it, so well done to all the children and adults that launched in and enjoyed themselves. (Launched in, did you get it)!!!!! 🙂
Jokes were never my thing.
Anyway another thumbs up for Swindon.

Swindon when one door shuts another door opens…….

Well, this post just reflects what I believe to be true in life in general.

Today a new store opened in Swindon Town Centre. Peacocks the clothing retailer opened up a new store. Nice and clean and warm, with plenty of stock and nice staff. Whilst only a few doors down HMV is closing down, selling off all of it’s stock at hugely discounted prices. What a shame for not just the staff that work there but for Swindon Town.

I believe in progress and new technology and the internet etc but I also do not want to see the High Street become a ghost town and I will support it as much as I can. However what I do believe in is:-

When one door shuts another one opens …..

Swindon Launch of Verelogic IT Recruitment Company

Another of my jobs last week was the Launch Party for the New Company Verelogic IT Recruitment. I think I have it right in saying that Verelogic IT Recruitment is a sister company of the well established Verelogic IT company that has been in Swindon for 20 years now. For me not only was it a lovely party well organized by the event coordinator Kirsty Heber-Smith but it shows that all is not doom and gloom in the economy. New things are happening, companies are springing up here in Swindon, jobs are out there for the taking, Swindon economy isnt all bad news and depression. In fact all of the people that I talk to in small businesses are quite positive at the moment.
Just to temper my enthusiasm I do know that there are major companies here that are laying people off right left and centre. I have friends who have been made redundant recently and are being made redundant. But it all seems to be the big major companies who do not seem to be able to manage themselves properly. Smaller companies to me, seem to be far more efficient and effective in what they are doing and therefore quite a few are growing and employing.

Well done to Verelogic IT Recruitment. Keep it up.
