Swindon Gay Pride Parade August 2015

Well, first thing to say is that I have failed to keep up with my at least one blog post per week this year. I have really just been either so busy or I have just lost my enthusiasm for it. Either way I am going to try to make up for it and post loads of images from what I have been doing.

Last sat was Swindon Gay Pride 2015. I had fun photographing the parade but to be honest my heart wasn’t in it when it came to the music and just hanging around. I think I left about 4.30 and probably missed quite a bit but I firmly believe that photography is an art form and your heart has to be in it as well as your head.

More catch up posts to come.

Today I had the pleasure of photographing the Swindon St George’s Day celebrations in the town centre put on by inSwindon BID company. Centre piece of course was the 20 ft St George that after being blessed traveled from the Cenotaph down to Wharf Green accompanied by 100 school children and Ethemia who had written a song especially for this occasion. Once in Wharf Green the children were split up into different groups where they were taught fold dancing around the May pole, made dragons out of clay and took part in sports competitions. It culminated with a performance of Folk Dancing or should I say alternative Folk Dancing by the group FolkDanceRemixd.

It was great fun, the weather held and everybody seemed to have a very enjoyable time.

Holmes Music Store Vinyl Record Weekend

Well, here I am back again. It has been a very busy few weeks and hence no posts for quite a while. Not the least I ran the London Marathon last Sunday. I wasnt happy with my time as I got tripped up at mile 5 and face planted the road. However I was very very proud of Kirsty Heber-Smith who ran it in a time of 3.44, exactly as we had planned it and also raised £2.5K for the charity Goldenhar which is one close to our hearts. If you dont know what Goldenhar is please chaeck it out, it’s worth it.

Anyhow back to photography. I spent several hours over two days at Alan Holmes Music shop where they were celebrating Vinyl Record weekend with lots of live music by local bands and artists. I wont list them all out as there were too many to mention, but I was impressed with all of them. Have to say the lighting was a nightmare as they had a back drop of the window and day 1 was bright sunshine, day 2 was dark clouds and rain!!! good old British Easter eh!!!! However the good thing about situations like that is firstly it is good to work in difficult situations that are out of your control and secondly you can get up close and personal and nobody minds.

It was a good weekend. I have also a very busy week coming up this week, lots of photographic jobs on so should be posting a lot in the next week and less rambling on 🙂

Colin Woolway drumming master class

Colin Woolway

Colin Woolway

Well I have not posted anything for quite a while. Reason being that I am pleased to say I have been really busy recently. Amongst other things I am rebuilding and re branding myself and all will be ready very soon. This blog will change but only the theme as I look for new and exciting themes. Mainly it will be my website, logo and total brand.

Just wanted to put this photo up. Last monday night I attended a drumming master class by a very well known drummer Colin Woolway both amongst bands and session artists. From the moment he started playing I was as they say ‘gobsmacked’. It was absolutely fascinating and a pleasure to watch and listen to. And I am not a musician in any way shape or form. I do love music though. What else surprised me was just how technical it all was. I was lost in the first few minutes!!!!

The master class was held at Alan Homes music shop here in Swindon and I for one really enjoyed it.

With this photo I have just messed around a little by turning it to black and white and playing with the levels a bit and not a lot else. As anybody who knows me I am not very good and dont believe in too much post processing. I try to get it right in camera. It was taken on a Nikon D800 and so had huge files to work on.

Interesting half hour though just messing about with the image. I quite like it. I hope you do.

Prince Andrew The Duke of York visits UTC Swindon

Prince Andrew The Duke of York made a flying visit in the rain to The UTC University Technical College in Swindon. The site which is still under construction was rather wet and muddy and we all had to wear boots, hard hats, hi viz jackets except the Prince himself!!

The Prince seemed genuinely interested in what was going on and seemed to enjoy himself. He met a selected few of the students, parents, staff and construction workers.

A tough day at the office Swindon Wedding Fayre at the Marriott

It was a tough day in the office yesterday. Taking photographs at the Marriott Hotel at the Wedding Fayre that was being held there.

Surrounded by pretty ladies, yep it was a tough day.

Holocaust Memorial Day Service in Swindon

Despite this event taking place in public I have removed the images as one person in a couple of them complained about being in them. I did explain that as she was in and the event took place in a public place that I was legally allowed to take and publish them, I did remove them as this is now old news and makes no difference to me. Whilst the images are not important it could be construed that I had made an assumption that they were a ‘couple’ whereas in fact they are both single and not attached to each other.

As an accredited jounalist and member of the NUJ I just wanted to point out that we as jounalist are allowed to take photographs in public places of public events.

At 12:00 on 27th January there was a small but well attended wreath laying ceremony in Swindon Town Centre to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day. Despite the inclement weather it was well attended by Swindon dignitaries including the Conservative MP for Swindon South Robert Buckland and Mayor Nick Martin who laid the wreath.

Swindons Grumpy Santa

Well who recognizes this guy ???

Even by his own admission he is a Grumpy Santa, I think it will be funny not to see and hear him shouting outside the Swindon shop.

Do you know which shop?

Fleshcreep Simon Wegrzyn meets Swindon at Old Town Lights Switch On

Last night was the Switch On of the Christmas Lights in Swindon Old Town. I had a lot of fun photographing Simon Wegryzn who plays Fleshcreep in this years Panto Jack and the Beanstalk at The Wyvern Theatre. Not only was he a really nice guy he was so easy to direct and was really happy to do anything I asked of him. I am really looking forward to seeing him and the rest of the cast at the Panto over Christmas.

I Love Christmas in Swindon

Dont you just love Christmas, well I certainly did on Thursday night at the Swindon Lights Switch on. Back stage with the girls from Swindon Ovation dance group.

Reminds me of the song All I Want For Christmas ……
